Though we, as coaches, at Delaware Hayes are strongly committed to winning, the following are our most important goals we have for every wrestler in our program regardless of his/her level of athleticism:

1. To constantly improve (in terms of technique, strength, and endurance) over the course of the season.  We, as coaches, have specific measures in place to help a wrestler identify where he/she is at regarding technique, strength, and endurance, and we work with each individual to set goals and devlop plans to improve upon them.

2.  To have fun, gain self-confidence, and feel a sense of belonging by being affiliated with our program and the other individuals in it.

3.  To become young men of good character by hearing from you, as coaches, about the importance of always being honest and respectful; understanding how to sacrifice and prioritize; being able to work hard and always give a maximum effort; learning how to trust others and, in return, be trustworthy; being dilligent and paying attention to details; and becoming an overacheiver in all that he/she does.

4. To learn about sportsmanship and the importance of carrying oneself with class and dignity in victory and defeat.

5.  To become great competitors by learning how great preparation leads to success; by expecting excellence from ourselves; by coping with and overcoming any sort of adversity that comes our way; and by having the ability to stay positive, believe in ourselves, and never quit even in the toughest of times.

6.  To become great leaders by being responsible, positive, and confident individuals

7.  To learn about leading a healthy lifestyle through the training and nutritional demands that come with the sport

8.  To delevop a lifelong love and appreciation for the sport of wrestling by understanding the impact it has on the the lives of individuals who participate in it and the bond of respect it creates between them.

9. To have a positive experience.  Each wrestler should remember his season, the comeraderie with his teammates, and his time with you, as a coach, very fondly.

10.  To learn about the importance of service and community by participating in fundraising and philantrophic events to promote the growthof their program or the betterment of their town.

11. To learn how to set challenging, yet realistic, goals, deveop action plans for those goals, and monitor progress made on thoe goals.
